Clarke’s Pool Meadow

Green-winged Orchids at Clarke’s Pool Meadow, Gloucestershire

A newly emerged Small Copper Butterfly

Although somewhat variable in colour the “normal” Green-winged Orchid tends to be purple complete with green veining on the “wings”.

A slightly paler version

Note the green veining definitely one of the easier plants for the early Botanists to name.

Orchid rich meadows tend to support numerous different species of Orchids. In flower at the same as the Green-winged Orchid the easily over-looked Common Twayblade.

Just a few more of the estimated 50,000 Green-winged Orchids to be seen at Clarke’s Pool Meadow. Unfortunately on this occasion the Adders tongue Fern escaped me. Perhaps not too surprising given the incredible variety of flora to be found.
