A superb evening out on the Dorset heathlands. <\/p>\n

Nightjars at dusk close to Arne followed by Glow-worms at Hartland Moor. Unfortunately the photograph of a Nightjar will have to wait for another year. In late May\/early June we normally see 2 or 3 male Nightjars and if we\u2019re lucky a female. In mid-July they seem to be everywhere swooping and hovering over the heath and the various small roads and tracks. Wonderful views however trying to take a half decent photo of them in near darkness is a bit tricky.   <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

On the way back with the light fading fast we called in at Hartland Moor. With thanks to Robin Scagell\u2019s ongoing Glow-worm survey<\/a> we were aware the area around the old tramtrack had a good historical record for Glow-worms. After the Fireflies<\/a> seen earlier in the summer this was too good an opportunity to miss. We jumped out of the car and slowly walked up along the side of the track. Suddenly a tiny green light appeared glowing from the top of the Bell Heather.  <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n
