Haredon Brook<\/p>\n

A few highlights from the Trough of Bowland.<\/p>\n

Thankfully the area still remains relatively wild and unspoilt. In early\u00a0Spring its still possible even at weekends to walk along\u00a0valleys and up footpaths without seeing another soul.\u00a0Having enjoyed a walk last year along Langdon Brook up to\u00a0the\u00a0“Castle”\u00a0on this occasion I decided upon following one of its tributaries\u00a0uphill.<\/p>\n

Dipper<\/p>\n

Spectacular scenery. With large parts of the area managed by United Utilities the brook is crystal clear and looks to be in pristine condition.\u00a0Not a bad place for the resident Dippers to call home. Certainly a big improvement on the conditions<\/a> that their urban relatives endure.<\/p>\n

\"Grey<\/p>\n

Grey Wagtail (male)<\/p>\n

Another bird frequently found on fast flowing brooks. In contrast to the Grey Wagtails found closer to home on the River Mersey at Haredon they appear to be summer visitors.<\/p>\n

A pair of Dippers involved in a bit of courtship at the Haredon Intake plant<\/p>\n

Superb birds to watch especially when walking under the crystal clear water.<\/p>\n

\"Curlew<\/p>\n

Curlew one of several heard calling from above the valley<\/p>\n

Further up the valley great to hear and see several waders in their summer breeding areas especially Curlews and Oystercatchers. Also several Meadow Pipits displaying and Stonechats calling.<\/p>\n

\"Sheepdogs<\/p>\n

One for Jake – the home for naughty dogs!<\/p>\n

Traditional stone kennels used to house the local sheepdogs. With it being lambing season the dogs looked a bit bored and fed up. No doubt they’ll soon be plenty of work to keep them busy.<\/p>\n
