Thankfully there are several excellent programmes available free of charge eg. Stellarium and even Google Sky that offer guidance for us townies when coming across a dark sky.\u00a0Armed with a bit of knowledge\u00a0at 10pm the moon set and I looked up towards the constellation Cygnus &#8220;The Swan&#8221;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\u00a0<a title=\"DSC_6683\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/ianworsley\/29915544596\/in\/datetaken\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/c5.staticflickr.com\/9\/8046\/29915544596_44a406f552_c.jpg\" alt=\"The Milky Way\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Gradually the Milky Way was slowly revealed as the lights from Poole and Bournemouth began to fade.<\/p>\n<p>The dominating stars of Cygnus form a cross, sometimes called the &#8220;Cross of the North&#8221;, which can be seen\u00a0in the above photo.\u00a0Alpha Cygni also known as Deneb is\u00a0the brightest star near the top, Gamma Cygni\u00a0or Sadr is\u00a0just above the center, and Beta Cygni\u00a0or Albireo near the bottom form the vertical axis.\u00a0Epsilon Cygni on the\u00a0left and\u00a0Gamma and Delta Cygni on the right form the horizontal axis.
