After what seems like several months a couple of days of sunshine created an ideal\u00a0opportunity to\u00a0 dust the bike off and head off down the Trans-Pennine Trail towards Sale Water Park. Feeling a little bit unsure of how wise it was to go cycling with an expensive camera and lens in the rucksack I was relieved to find\u00a0large sections of the route had been re-surfaced.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

One of the birds that has really benefitted from the recent run of mild winters always great\u00a0to watch\u00a0the Long-tailed Tits flitting through the trees and scrub.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

On a totally different scale for a few months each year the Grey Heron takes to the trees. With their huge wingspan and bill clapping there’s an\u00a0almost prehistoric atmosphere within\u00a0the Heronry.\u00a0Trying to photograph them proved\u00a0interesting\u00a0with focusing\u00a0through the branches being somewhat challenging.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

In a typical display of bureaucratic incompetence despite emails and\u00a0 phone calls neither Highways England or their maintenance contractors – Balfour Beatty Mott McDonald\u00a0could be bothered\u00a0to treat the Giant Hogweed found growing last summer in the central reservation of the A5103\/Princess Parkway<\/a>. Apparently there’s no “safe access.” Strange how the police never seem to have this problem\u00a0when they\u00a0park up\u00a0practically next to the plants and set up\u00a0speed traps.\u00a0Unfortunately thanks to the storm drains\u00a0the Hogweed is now\u00a0spreading\u00a0downstream. This one has now been treated however I’ll be surprised if more don’t appear during the summer.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
