Orange-tip – Kenworthy Wood, Northern Moor (opposite Chorlton Water Park)<\/p>\n

A quick catch-up from St George’s Day and a\u00a0sunny weekend. Despite a cool breeze a surprising number of butterflies on the wing. In addition to the Orange-tips, several Small Tortoiseshell, Brimstones, Peacocks and even an early Speckled Wood were seen. Incredible how the Orange-tips vanish\u00a0into the undergrowth as soon as a cloud blocks out the sun. The cryptic markings on the underwing\u00a0are extremely effective.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Feeding on Garlic Mustard and Cuckoo flower the female lacks the bright orange tips of the male.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
