{"id":623,"date":"2012-07-04T08:13:00","date_gmt":"2012-07-04T08:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/naturalbornblogger.co.uk\/?p=623"},"modified":"2020-04-04T08:55:22","modified_gmt":"2020-04-04T08:55:22","slug":"fossil-forest-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/naturalbornblogger.co.uk\/?p=623","title":{"rendered":"Fossil Forest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Located just to the east of Lulworth Cove inside the military firing ranges the fossil forest is one of the highlights of the \u201cJurrasic Coast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Towards the end of the Jurassic period the sea level dropped creating a group of islands surrounded by salty lagoons. For a short period of time a tropical forest of giant cypress and ferns flourished before the sea rose again. The forest was then flooded under a shallow lagoon. Thick mats of algae grew across the forest floor and around the base of the trees and fallen logs.
