19th January 2021 – a bit wet, nothing to worry about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

20th January – hmmm……… still raining, Storm Christoph approaching and where’s the footpath and lower bank? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Bailey<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Can’t recall the River Mersey ever being so high next to Chorlton Water Park. Hopefully the Bailey Bridge is well built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wow…. much more of this and it’ll be over the embankment, into Chorlton Water Park and all the neighbouring houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There she goes – that’s the Transpennine trail and Barlow Tip being swallowed up by the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

21st January – another chilly night, a bit more snow and the river is still extremely high. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quite eerie to see Fairy Lane substation lit up overnight. With it supplying most of central Manchester ENWL had good reason to be nervous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6 days later and finally the water returned to near its normal level. A stroll downstream to Sale Water Park revealed the extensive damage to the footpaths. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One for the scrapbook. A bit of a surprise to nip out to the local shop and find all the neighbouring roads closed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately the flood basins at Didsbury and Sale Water Park proved just about sufficient to stop more widespread flooding. If the river had risen another 2 inches most of south Manchester would have flooded. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
