| Strange to recall that the last Wall Lizards we’d seen were on the outskirts of Bournemouth. Great to finally catch up with their Italian relatives.
In actual fact it was difficult to avoid them. Every wall and patch of grass appeared to have its own colony. From Herculaneum and Pompeii to the summit of Vesuvius and the hotel balcony they were everywhere. Up walls, in trees, hiding behind gutters, sneaking in through open windows the sheer number of Wall Lizards was phenomenal. |

Mediterranean House Gecko – Sorrento, Italy |
| During the evenings the Wall Lizards were joined by the Mediterranean House Gecko. Their ability to cling to the underside of even the smoothest of surfaces was particularly impressive. |
The lizards around Bournemouth in the UK are Common wall lizards, Podarcis muralis, not the Italian Podarcis sicula.
