| A pair of courting Great Crested Grebes at Meresands Wood LWT reserve. Despite making all the right moves this particular pair are yet to successfully raise any young. Hopefully this year they’ll succeed.
More highlights from a recent tour of west Lancashire. Really good to be out and enjoying the arrival of Spring. |

| Little Owl on the outskirts of Southport |

| One of a pair of Oystercatchers probing for earthworms, again close to the centre of Southport. |

| Male Reed Bunting at Martin Mere WWT. |

| Rattus norvegicus, again one of several below the feeders at Martin Mere. |

 |
| Male Tree Sparrows at Martin Mere.
Thankfully the Tree Sparrow population appears relatively stable at Martin Mere. Unfortunately in common with so many other farmland birds the situation elsewhere is more worrying. |

| A recently arrived pair of Avocets close by at Marshside RSPB nature reserve. |

| Male Shoveler at Marshside. |
