A return to Watlington, the smallest town in England and the filming location of many of more memorable scenes featured in Midsomer Murder. St Leonard’s starred in “Ring out your Dead” with Inspector Barnaby called in to investigate the killing of bell ringers in the week before a big bell-ringing competition.

In many episodes of Midsomer Murder the distinctive calls of Red Kites can be heard. The success of the re-introduction has been incredible with over 1000 birds thought to be resident within the Chilterns.

Watching the kites swooping down on discarded food a visit to Watlington is probably the nearest 21st century equivalent to the kites of Shakespeare’s medieval London keeping the streets clear of carrion and rotting food.
