Early Marsh Orchid, Barlow Tip – the most widespread and variable marsh orchid.

Closely related to the Early Marsh Orchid with hybrids being relatively common. In general the hybrids tend to be stronger growing than the species and can reach up to 90cm tall.

An interesting looking hole. I think we can rule out Rabbits!

Great to see another successful breeding season for the Swans at Chorlton Water Park.

With the increase in attention resulting from nesting in the reeds close to the children’s play area I did wonder if they’d be too much disturbance. Perhaps the influx of extra human visitors during the recent lockdowns has deterred natural predators?

The male Swan (Cob) on the left just after chasing off a Jack Russell. Definitely cock of the lake!
