Probably the finest area of chalk downland within the UK and within the top 3 SSSI’s/Nature Reserves we’ve visited. To describe the area as exceptional is an understatement.
The site is the main stronghold in north-west Europe for the endangered Burnt Orchid. In addition, there are also Frog Orchids and earlier in the season Green-winged Orchids. Birds, mammals and insects are also very well represented.

If visiting allow plenty of time. Parsonage Down is next to the Iron Age hillfort of Yarnbury Castle (well worth a visit). The turning off the A303 is pretty hairy and easily missed.
