Pied Flycatcher (male) |
With rain and and a nagging cold north-westerly wind replacing April’s early warmth its not been particularly good weather for trying to photograph or see anything over the past couple of weeks. However this morning the showers were forecasted to die out for a couple of hours so it was time to head off up to the Goyt valley. |

A superb little bird.
At least 2 Spotted Flycatchers close by but unfortunately in a heavily shaded area of the woodland. |
|
Female Redstart – in addition 2 singing males in the Oaks close to Errwood Hall car park.
Interesting to see that with the rain forcing the insects down the Redstarts were feeding at ground level. Must be pretty tough trying to keep up with a hungry brood. |

Common Sandpiper taking advantage of the soft ground and mud at the edge of the car park. |
