| One look at the deeply fractured rocks was more than sufficient to persuade me that entering the former quarry wouldn’t be the wisest of moves. First quarried by the Romans historically the stone was used for sarcophagi. Not what I had planned for a glorious morning in mid July. |

| More recently the closest connection with Italy is the European Wall Lizard. This particular colony appears to be thriving despite the close attention of a pair of Kestrels. |

| In addition to the various abandoned quarries the Wall Lizards can also be found at Durlston and Corfe Castle. |

| On this occasion with it being so warm it was literally a case of waiting for the lizards to appear from amongst the shadows. |
