North Hill, Exmoor

Thunderstorms moving up the Bristol channel

With lockdown lifted time for a change of scenery and a few days based on a campsite on the edge of Exmoor.

Ancient woodland at North Hill, on the edge of Exmoor just outside of Minehead

A sure sign we’re walking along an ancient bridleway with a strategically placed drinking trough halfway up the hill.

Hart’s Tongue Fern

Incredible that even on the edge of Exmoor invasive non-native species are present. Didn’t expect to find a Three cornered Leek but in the more open areas of the woodland it was growing rather too well.

Directly opposite the woodland an open area of moorland.

Amazing to listen to the Nightjars churring late at night from the adjacent campsite. Also plenty of Meadow Pipits, Green Woodpeckers, Stonechats and Roe Deer.
