Worthy Combe Toll Lodge

Fairy Tunnel, Ashley Combe House former home of Ada Byron.
The tunnels date back to 1835 and the construction of the Italianate gardens. Presumably built to allow the 1st Earl Lovelace and his wife to visit the adjacent beach unseen.

With the walk up the slope to Culborne Church being fairly steep the stone seat was built as a resting point for the nearby villagers.

Not too difficult to imagine the Earl walking over the bridge and down the steep slope to the shingle beach below.

Culborne Church, first recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 and the smallest parish church in England.

Really impressed, despite plenty of visitors once we were off the path leading up to the church the wooded valley was incredibly tranquil. A bit steep in places but stunning scenery and historical interest made the walk really enjoyable.
