Fossil hunting at Klive Beach

East Quantoxhead the nearest parking spot to Klive Beach and the South-West Coastal Path. Great to see a duckpond especially when its complete with a duckhouse – the sign of a real village!

A short stroll took us through the fields and down towards the coast and the junction with the SW Coast path. A set of steps descended through the cliff face and onto the “beach.”

Wow! absolutely spectacular – perhaps wise to avoid standing too close to the cliff face.

Heading west the waterworn terraces formed a myriad of rockpools and as we continued the rocks began to reveal fossils dating back to the Jurassic era.

Ammonites, vertebras and reptile remains were relatively easy to find

Another ammonite – likely to be Psiloceras planorbis.

A spectacular location – we’ll be back 🙂
